Laser system allows real-time verification
Tracer SI Faro Technologies' laser-guided assembly and verification system uses 3-D CAD models to create templates it can project onto physical objects. The Tracer SI scans the object in front of it and, using Faro's BuildIT software, aligns the model with the physical object. It can generate a workflow to indicate step-by-step order of assembly. It projects a green laser image onto the surface to indicate such things as the location and orientation of components to be joined or welded. Multiple systems can be linked to cover large items. Applications include paint and decal templating and hand layup of composites.
What's new? In-process verification (IPV) and feature-based alignment. IPV scans allow real-time validation of the absence/presence and position of an object, as well as detection of debris. Feature-based alignment lets the Tracer SI orient to the object by identifying holes, corners and other features, without the need for retroreflectors.
Benefits Reduction or elimination of the need for physical templates. The system allows real-time corrective measures, reducing scrap and rework.
