KraussMaffei automates 'wet molding' unit
Wet molding KraussMaffei has developed a turnkey "wet molding" system for manufacturing fiber-reinforced plastic components that is especially appropriate for automotive applications. It applies a matrix material to a semi-finished fiber mat that is then pressed into shape in a mold. The system features a KraussMaffei MX mold carrier and a RimStar resin transfer molding (RTM) metering machine. It can process epoxy, PU or polyamide.
What's new? Automation. A robot picks up fiber mats and transfers them to a table, where a second robot applies the resin matrix using a mixing head and flat sheet die. The first robot also places the mats into the mold for molding and curing.
Benefits Faster cycle times and greater process repeatability.
