The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) recently convened industry leaders for FlexForum 2026, bringing together professionals from across the flexible film and packaging value chain to discuss the evolving future of polyolefin films, flexible plastics and packaging sustainability.

Held May 4–6 in Fort Myers, Fla., the event welcomed nearly 100 attendees for several days of educational sessions, networking opportunities and discussions focused on the technologies, policies and market trends shaping the industry.

As demand for flexible packaging continues to grow alongside increasing focus on sustainability and circularity, FlexForum provided a platform for manufacturers, recyclers, converters, suppliers, brands, retailers and stakeholders to exchange perspectives on both the opportunities and challenges facing the industry.

Sessions cover multiple packaging topics

Throughout the forum, attendees explored topics including recycling infrastructure, sustainability, trade and policy developments, artificial intelligence in manufacturing operations, and the economic outlook for flexible plastics. Sessions examined how companies across the value chain are adapting to evolving market conditions while continuing to invest in innovation, operational efficiency and long-term growth.

In addition, “Powered by FFRA” bonus sessions were woven throughout the program, highlighting industry-led efforts advancing flexible film recycling through real-world pilots, data-driven insights and collaborative solutions focused on improving recovery and circularity.

“Events like FlexForum demonstrate the importance of fostering collaboration across the plastics value chain and creating opportunities for industry leaders to share expertise, exchange ideas and engage in meaningful discussions about the future of flexible packaging,” said Leslie Jutte, senior director of industry engagement at PLASTICS. “As the industry continues to evolve, collaboration and knowledge-sharing will remain essential to advancing practical solutions that strengthen recycling systems and support a more circular future for flexible plastics.”

Giving back beyond the forum

New this year, FlexForum 2026 incorporated a corporate social responsibility initiative into the event programming through a partnership with TeamBonding during the welcome reception.

Attendees assembled 75 STEM enrichment kits that will be distributed to children in transition throughout Southwest Florida, including children in foster care. The initiative provided participants with an opportunity to support the local community while reinforcing the collaborative spirit of the event.

Collaboration across the value chain

In addition to educational programming, FlexForum featured networking receptions and opportunities for attendees to connect directly with suppliers, customers and industry peers.

The event created space for attendees to exchange ideas, discuss operational challenges and explore solutions while also providing opportunities to engage with leading suppliers and providers showcasing technologies designed to support the evolving needs of the industry. Discussions throughout the event reflected sustained focus on efficiency, sustainability, recycling infrastructure  and long-term growth.

Looking ahead

As the flexible plastics and packaging industries continue to adapt to changing market conditions and policy developments, events like FlexForum play an important role in bringing together diverse perspectives to share knowledge, explore solutions and identify opportunities for growth.

PLASTICS looks forward to continuing these conversations and supporting industry collaboration as manufacturers and stakeholders work to build a more resilient and circular future for flexible packaging.
