Chinaplas 2022 is postponed
In an eerie echo of the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event organizer for the International Exhibition on Plastics and Rubber Industries, also known as Chinaplas, has again shut down plans for one of the world’s largest plastics industry shows.
The 35th annual Chinaplas has been postponed over concern about the spread of the respiratory disease, which has killed more than 6 million people over the last two-plus years, according to the World Health Organization. Chinaplas 2020 was also scuttled, though it was rescheduled to last year, when it took place.
China, where the virus originated, is seeing a surge in cases, and has enacted pandemic-control measures in Shanghai, where this year’s Chinaplas had been scheduled to take place April 25-28.
New dates and other details of the exhibition will be announced soon.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused due to the show postponement. Though faced with the COVID challenge, we are committed to stand by the industry and provide our best support to you whenever needed,” Chinaplas organizers said in a statement.
In 2020, Chinaplas was the first major plastics trade show to be canceled due to the coronavirus, after being initially postponed from April to August. Chinaplas 2021 was held as scheduled last April in Shenzhen, although attendees were almost exclusively from China, with few international visitors.
