PLASTICS: Advocating in Washington and beyond
The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) is the only trade association representing the entire plastics value chain — equipment suppliers, material suppliers, material processors and other businesses that depend on and support all three. There are more than 800 member companies in the association, enjoying exclusive member benefits designed to help their businesses and the entire plastics industry thrive.
Among the most important of those benefits is a top-notch team working on behalf of members in the world of government affairs and advocacy, led by Matt Seaholm, Vice President for Government Affairs and a veteran of state and federal politics, advocacy and campaigns on both the state and national levels.
Seaholm’s team keeps its collective finger on the pulse of legislative and regulatory action, everywhere from the White House, to Capitol Hill, to all 50 state capitals. Testifying before federal and state committees, meeting with legislators, monitoring the progress of legislation, partnering on initiatives with other organizations and more, Seaholm’s team is on the front lines of issues vital to the well-being of the plastics industry and the hundreds of thousands of Americans who depend on it for a livelihood.
Government affairs and advocacy benefits also include personal updates from Seaholm at PLASTICS events, where he provides up-to-the-minute overviews of the legislative and regulatory landscape, what members can expect to see coming down the road, and what PLASTICS is doing to represent their interests. His next major update will be presented at the PLASTICS 2022 Spring National Meeting and Conference in Chicago, May 2-4, where members will gather to take care of association business and hear from expert speakers on a variety of topics essential to their day-to-day business lives.
Attendees at the Spring National Meeting and Conference will also hear important economic updates, as well as presentations on vital areas including workforce development, supply chain challenges and communicating the importance of plastics at a time when activists are focused on eliminating them. The event will also enable professionals from throughout the plastics value chain to meet colleagues from a variety of disciplines, to better understand the full scope of the industry and the benefits of such a broad range of companies working together in an association like PLASTICS.
Prior to the Chicago event, Seaholm and team will be hosting the Virtual 2022 Plastics Industry Fly-In, March 29-31, during which attendees will have the opportunity to engage online in direct discussions with members of Congress, key congressional staff and other influential people in and around the nation’s capital.
