Brueckner film lines gain in-line coating tech

The company's biaxially oriented PP (BOPP) film stretching lines can produce numerous types of BOPP commodity, specialty and multilayer films.

Film stretching lines Brueckner’s biaxially oriented PP (BOPP) film stretching lines can produce numerous types of BOPP commodity, specialty and multilayer films with widths of up to 34 feet and at speeds of up to 1,968 feet per minute. The company’s biaxially oriented PE (BOPE) film stretching lines are available in line widths of 21.7 feet and 28.5 feet and operate at speeds of up to 1,722 feet per minute.

What’s new? In-line coating. The company’s newly developed technology is installed between the machine orientation and the transverse orientation portions of the line. It applies a wet chemical that provides a base layer for a subsequent metallizing step. The coating equipment can be used with the company’s regular three-layer BOPP or BOPE film stretching lines and is available on new equipment and is retrofittable to existing film stretching lines.

Benefits Improved bonding of a metallized layer to the film, for outstanding oxygen and water vapor barrier properties. Because it eliminates off-line coating steps, the technology is economical. It also is appropriate for a wide variety of film types and packaging applications. Additionally, since the coating material is water-based, transparent and extremely thin, it does not affect the film’s recyclability.
