Latest Solex extruder gets new screw, barrel

Oct. 26, 2016
This series of single-screw extruders is suited for manufacturing polyolefin pipes with diameters of up to about 8.5 feet.

solEX NG Based on Battenfeld-Cincinnati's solEX 40 D series, this next generation series of single-screw extruders is suited for manufacturing polyolefin pipes with diameters of up to about 8.5 feet. It comes in four sizes, from 60mm to 120mm, offering outputs of about 2,200-5,500 pounds.

What's new? The screw, barrel and grooved bushing. The barrel is internally grooved, and the screw has been designed to handle dispersive melting. Compared to the solEX series, the new series also incorporates spiral grooves and a completely revised geometry. In addition to being offered in the new solEX NG extruders, the processing unit is available as a retrofit for older solEX extruders.

Benefits Lower melt temperatures, optimized pressure buildup, higher throughput and a reduction of maintenance costs, compared to previous models. Throughputs are about 25 percent higher, while energy consumption is about 15 percent lower.
