Sandwich Molding Process This flexible sandwich process from Wittmann Battenfeld can now be used on its MacroPower large-tonnage presses to produce thick-walled parts with a foamed core or where regrind is used as filler. The process involves two injection units in a horizontal 'Y' configuration.
What's New? A newly developed sandwich nozzle permits sandwich molding with the MacroPower two-platen hydraulic line, which ranges from 400-1600 tons. The nozzle structure contains two nozzle channels — for the main and core components, each fed individually by aggregate from separate injection units. The nozzle can be rotated by 180 degrees allowing aggregate from each injection unit to enter a different nozzle channel.
Benefits The nozzle design allows for cleaning from the front for quick color changes, and permits access to the nozzle and barrel from both sides of the press for ease of maintenance.
