Macro expands its refurbishing business

Macro Engineering & Technology Inc., Mississauga, Ontario, which makes film and sheet extrusion machinery, also is expanding its refurbishing capabilities at its headquarters.

"We have seen a significant increase in requests for refurbishing customers' existing equipment," said Jim Stobie, CEO of Macro. "After we refurbish our customers' dies and retrofit old screws, their equipment performance improves again. This is the most cost-effective way to maintain productivity and product quality."

Worn equipment can result in increased chance for polymer degradation, worsening of polymer flow distribution over time, and questionable melt temperature gradient, said Stobie. Refurbishing involves evaluating the existing dies for damage, stripping the plating, remachining die surfaces if needed, and polishing and replating again.
