Klear Can gets green light from food safety tests

Nov. 18, 2015

A transparent alternative to metal food cans has passed a critical safety test, says Milacron Holdings Corp., Cincinnati, which introduced the co-injection technology used to make the Klear Can.

Tests have shown that the Klear Can has a strong enough lid to be used as a container for foods such as soups, vegetables and meat. Testing on the container will continue in some markets in Belgium, where cans filled with vegetables will be available. Milacron says the Klear Can has a shelf life of more than two years.

At NPE, officials said the multilayer, multimaterial can is appropriate for hot-fill, aseptic, autoclaving and pasteurization and sterilization applications.
