Davis-Standard acquires Gloucester Engineering

Sept. 23, 2015

Davis-Standard LLC, Pawcatuck, Conn., has increased its blown film capabilities with its acquisition of Gloucester Engineering Co. (GEC), which offers blown film extrusion equipment and upgrades. The growing company also announced plans to celebrate the grand opening of a new facility on Oct. 2.

With the addition of GEC, Davis-Standard gains experienced design and process engineering capabilities, a large installed base and greater aftermarket capabilities. The company says it will continue the GEC brand on products where it is recognized.

"The alignment of our companies leverages our sizeable base of installed equipment with the industry's best resources for sales, engineering and service," says Carl Johnson, GEC VP of sales, about the announcement in September.

While it intends to maintain a sales, engineering and service office in Gloucester, Mass., where GEC had its headquarters, Davis-Standard says it will consolidate production. This month, it planned to begin operating a new 20,000-square-foot blow-molding manufacturing plant in Fulton, N.Y., next door to where it already had a facility.

"This enables us to relocate our blow-molding business from Bridgewater, N.J., to Fulton, supporting ongoing efforts to achieve cost-effective manufacturing and superior customer service," says Floyd Backes, director of operations for the company's New York and New Jersey operations.

The company offers more than 10 product lines and employs about 850 people at manufacturing and technical facilities in the United States and United Kingdom, China and Germany. It did not disclose how much it paid for GEC.
