Barnes Group Inc., Bristol, Conn., has agreed to purchase hot-runner manufacturer Thermoplay SpA, Pont-Saint-Martin, Italy, for about $56 million. Privately held Thermoplay has more than 200 employees worldwide and about $40 million in sales.
Barnes Group President and CEO Patrick J. Dempsey says the acquisition will allow the company to "globalize our plastic injection mold and hot-runner manufacturing capabilities." Barnes Group business unit Männer is a supplier of high-precision molds, hot-runner systems and micro-injection molding systems. Synventive Molding Solutions, another unit, supplies hot-runner systems. Thermoplay will operate as a business unit within Barnes Group's industrial segment.
