Paul N. Colby, Plastics Hall of Fame member and leader in the field of screws, barrels and other components for plasticizing systems, died March 7 at age 86.
Colby built Spirex Corp., a small, Youngstown, Ohio, screw company, into an international business before it was acquired by Xaloy Corp., now Nordson Xaloy, in 2009.
He retired as president of Spirex in 1998, but served as chairman until the Xaloy acquisition. Colby held numerous patents for plasticizing components and led Spirex to pioneer many new methods of screw design and production.
