The late Lew Ferguson, a member of the SPE Blow Molding Division Board of Directors, established the Annual Blow Molded Parts Competition in 2013 to highlight advancements and innovations in blow molding design and applications. He worked hard to ensure its success and was recognized across the blow molding and plastics industries for his passion to recognize and celebrate new parts designs.
Rocheleau Tool & Die was named the winner of the 2025 Parts Competition. Its submission, “Resin Cartridge V2,” achieved 66 percent weight reduction and 40 percent reduction of leaking cartridges. It has an adjustable calibrated bottom neck ID, and its cubed design allows 50 percent more 1-liter cartridges to fit in a shipping container.
“Our award-winning submission demonstrated how thoughtful blow molding design can reduce material usage by more than half while improving product reliability and shipping efficiency,” the company wrote on LinkedIn announcing the award. “By eliminating a secondary machining step in the process, the design also simplifies production and reduces the risk of defects.
“This recognition highlights the creativity, precision, and dedication of our team in pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in blow molding.”
The other finalists were Fhw-Moulds GmbH, with a “20L Lite Shield” container that incorporated lightweighting technology and anti-counterfeit technology; and Arch Plastics Packaging, with a biodegradable PET bottle containing 98 percent post-consumer recycled material, including ocean-bound plastic.
