c-Com Germany-based c-Com GmbH has created a software platform for efficient management of cutting tools and tool-related data between mold makers and machining tool suppliers. Four web-based modules were presented during the launch of the platform at the EMO Hannover 2017 show in September, and several iOS apps are available for mobile management of data and documents. Each individual tool has a QR code so that it can be tracked via the c-Com platform; scanning the code updates the status of the tool. Using the web-based modules, companies can track the physical location of each tool, predict when that tool will need maintenance and monitor the number of times it has been reconditioned.

Benefits Simplified communication of tool status. Instead of exchanging large Excel documents, logistics departments and respective tool suppliers can access real-time status and location of tools. Stock levels can be optimized with this more accurate information, avoiding misplaced tools, overstocking or halting production due to a shortage of specific tools. C-Com is working with a number of tool manufacturers to include their tools on the platform, and is in discussions to include all major toolmakers.
