Shred-Tech debuts 2-shaft shredder

June 2, 2016

Canadian recycling equipment manufacturer Shred-Tech has launched another model in its line of two-shaft shredders.

The ST-300 shredder is applicable to a wide range of shredding jobs, including plastics, according to Shred-Tech, which is based in Cambridge, Ontario. Shred-Tech discussed the new model at the Re|focus Recycling Summit & Expo in Orlando in April. The first unit was sold in April.

The ST-300 is available with cutting chambers of 53 inches by 40 inches, 65 inches by 40 inches and 75 inches by 40 inches. The machines come with twin electric motors in 75-, 100- and 150-horsepower versions.

Shred-Tech builds its own control panel, which features illuminated function buttons, keyed power switch, fused lockable disconnect, hour meter and PLC for shredder functions such as knife reversal.

The company said the design of the machined hex shafts maximizes knife placement options and allows for easy knife removal and maintenance.

The discharge height is 48 inches and hopper height is 50 inches.

The company said several recent changes to other ST models that make maintenance easier have been incorporated into the ST-300. The models' cast steel body design and bulkhead walls, plus barriers at each end of the cutting chamber, enhance bearing and seal protection.

Sectional cleaning fingers can be removed from the top. A lightweight chamber plate makes disassembling the cutting chamber easy. Bearings and seals can be replaced without disassembling the gearbox.

Several options are available, including:

• PLC interface for peripheral equipment

• Custom stands and hoppers

• Feed and discharge conveyors

• Pneumatic or hydraulic ram

• Vibrating, magnet or rotary separation

• Reduced voltage start

• Trailer mounting

• Explosion-proof motors

• Connection via a modem

• Boom crane and working platform.

There are now 11 models in the ST two-shaft line, ranging from the ST-5 for shredding hard drives to the ST-1200 for high-shock loads and severe-duty applications.

Shred-Tech also makes single-rotor shredders and four-shaft shredders.
