DMG Mori has upgraded its machining center. The five-axis system combines high-speed precision cutting with ultrasonic milling to tackle a broad range of materials, including composites.

Ultrasonic 20 linear 2nd generation DMG Mori has upgraded its machining center. The five-axis system combines high-speed precision cutting with ultrasonic milling to tackle a broad range of materials, including composites. It is suited for mold making and for producing fiber-reinforced plastic components for the aerospace and automotive markets, among other industries.

What's new? A number of added and upgraded functions, including a new digitally controlled ultrasonic generator and improved ultrasonic actuators. The machine debuted at DMG Mori's open house at the end of January.

Benefits More control and the flexibility of having high-speed cutting and grinding in one machine. In its standard version, the machine has a maximum speed of 40,000 rpm. With the upgrades, the system can automatically set and track parameters during processing. Also, the control now shows technology cycles and key process parameters, such as frequency, amplitude and output. These capabilities help maximize machine performance.
