Makino's Hyper Technologies platform has been developed for electric discharge machine (EDM) operators of all skill levels.

Hyper Technologies expansion Makino's Hyper Technologies platform has been developed for electric discharge machine (EDM) operators of all skill levels. Its interface, the Hyper-i control, has onboard manuals, a training system and help buttons designed to enhance operators' skills and understanding of tool- and die-making. The platform's functions include the automatic creation of machine-use charts to help measure and assess operational efficiency; EZCut, which allows the operator to change machining speed with a slide bar; and ECO Mode, which reduces energy consumption when the machine is idling. Another Hyper Technologies control system, HyperCut, helps wire EDM operators cut faster using less wire, and reduces the total number of machining passes.

What's new? Hyper Technologies' expansion, so that it's now compatible with the entire line of new Makino EDMs.

Benefits Improved efficiency and cycle times. Hyper Technologies users can achieve improved surface finish, part quality and accuracy. The intuitive nature of the system, especially the smartphone-based design of the Hyper-i control, means new users have a short learning curve and can adapt easily to new processes and machines. With the comprehensive Hyper-i features, Makino hopes to address skills and experience gaps, providing operators with the information they need to develop professionally.
