Large-scale printer features moving table

Thermwood's LSAM MT uses a single fixed gantry for a smaller footprint than previous models, and a new cooling process improves adhesion.

LSAM MT This addition to the Large Scale Additive Manufacturing (LSAM) line of 3-D printers from Thermwood uses a single,  fixed gantry and a moving table. The gantry supports an extruder that uses standard resin pellets to print carbon-fiber-reinforced or glass-fiber-reinforced parts. It is available in print-only and
“print and trim” hybrid versions; the latter adds a CNC-controlled router. The “print and trim” version prints a near-net-shape part slightly larger than needed, then uses the router to cut the part down to its finished shape and size.

What’s new? The LSAM MT, which debuted in November.

Benefits A dramatically lower price and improved performance. The footprint and price of the LSAM MT has been cut by using only one gantry instead of the dual gantries of predecessor models. The printer’s “continuous cooling” process improves adhesion by allowing each layer to cool to the proper temperature before the next layer is added. Additionally, a safety enclosure is available as an option.
