3D printing technology company Carbon announced its acquisition of ParaMatters, a firm specializing in software for additive manufacturing.

In a press release, Carbon said most design and manufacturing software platforms are created with traditional manufacturing methods in mind, such as subtractive machining or injection molding. This acquisition will let Carbon expand its current software capabilities to allow users to create new iterations more quickly and take advantage of a wider variety of materials and production systems.

“We recognize the critical role software design tools play in our customers' digital transformation. For far too long, designers have settled for software design tools that adhere to the limitations of traditional manufacturing,” said Phil DeSimone, co-founder and member of the Office of the CEO. “… Both Carbon and ParaMatters have shared the same vision to provide modern tools to ensure product development teams can create better products in less time.”

Based in Redwood City, Calif., Carbon produces digital light synthesis (DLS) 3D printers as well as software technology.
