BCN3D's Stratos software makes printers easier to use

Sept. 23, 2021
Users of its Sigma and Epsilon printers can employ printing profiles to set parameters.

3-D printers Barcelona-based BCN3D produces the Sigma and Epsilon lines of 3-D printers, which can be used for prototyping as well as production of parts. The fused-filament-fabrication printers use an open filament system, allowing them to print with a wide range of third-party materials. All of BCN3D’s printers feature its independent double extruder (IDEX) system, which can be used to print: parts with support structures; parts made from two different materials; identical parts to double production speed; or two mirror-image parts. In the U.S., BCN3D’s products are distributed by Matterhackers Inc., Lake Forest, Calif.; Dynamism Inc., Chicago; and Archematerial Inc., Fairfax, Va.

What’s new? The Stratos slicing software, which BCN3D will bundle for free with all models of its Sigma and Epsilon printers. BCN3D is also creating a MacOS version of the software it plans to release this fall.

Benefits Ease of use. Stratos makes it simpler for users to take full advantage of the IDEX system, including merging multi-material models and generating support structures. With Stratos, users select the material, and which hot ends are installed, and the software’s printing profiles will guide them to set the right parameters — or users can create custom settings. Uploading a broad range of file formats is as simple as dragging and dropping them. Users can print directly to networked printers or save files on removable memory devices.
