Extruder head boosts German RepRap printer

L280 This new 3-D printer from German RepRap GmbH, Feldkirchen, Germany, uses a special extruder head to mix materials and create complex shapes from liquid silicone rubber. For super-detailed features, nozzles are available with diameters as small as 0.23mm. Users can print both production-ready parts, as well as prototypes. Some products made by the machines include shoe insoles and custom gaskets.

What’s new? The printer. Developed in collaboration with Dow Chemical Co., Midland, Mich., it made its debut in November at formnext in Frankfurt, Germany. It is available in the U.S. through 3DChimera.

Benefits The efficient production of parts that exhibit qualities comparable to injection molded parts, without the need for tooling. With the machines, users can quickly manufacture prototypes and custom products.
