Using fused-filament fabrication, the  gMax 1.5+ and gMax 1.5 XT+ printers from gCreate can print specially formulated plastics.

gMax 1.5 series Using fused-filament fabrication, the  gMax 1.5+ and gMax 1.5 XT+ printers from gCreate can print specially formulated plastics. The gMax 1.5+ has a build volume of 16 inches by 16 inches by 12 inches, and the gMax 1.5 XT+ has a build volume of 16 inches by 16 inches by 21 inches. Both printers have the ability to print to an accuracy of within 80 microns, so they can be used for making final parts, as well as prototypes. Users include car manufacturers and lighting designers. Shown is the gMax 1.5 XT+ printer.

What's new? The printers' dual-zone heated beds, which plug directly into the wall, and auto leveling sensors. Also, since their original release last year, the printers now are designed with more powder-coated metal components.

Benefits Cost-effectiveness, especially for their size, and ease of use. The gMax 1.5+ is $2,495, and the gMax 1.5 XT+ is $500 more. The printers have been designed so that components can be swapped with parts from outside vendors, in many cases. This adaptability allows the printers to use a wide range of materials, including polylactic acid, ABS, carbon fiber and polyvinyl acetate.
